From Plastic Waste to Bright Futures: Empowering Youth Through Recycling and Educational Innovation

Talk to Save Youth Recycling Initiative is an innovative youth-led recycling project that transforms waste plastic into useful and educational products while creating employment opportunities for young people.

The initiative collects and recycles High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plastic waste, which is processed and transformed into durable Toy cars and Abacus. These products are designed to serve two important purposes: as learning aids in schools and as play materials for children. Through this innovation, plastic waste that could otherwise pollute the environment is given a new and valuable purpose.

The project contributes to environmental conservation by reducing plastic waste in the community, while at the same time supporting youth employment, skills development, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

Youth Employment
The initiative has created employment opportunities for 30 young people, who are involved in different stages of the recycling and production process. Their roles include:
Waste Collectors – 9poeple: Collect HDPE plastic waste from the community and other sources.
Cleaners – 3people: Sort, wash, and clean the collected plastic materials to prepare them for recycling.
Assembly Workers – 4people: Assemble the recycled components into finished Toy and Abacus.
Recyclers – 6poeple: Process and recycle the HDPE plastic into usable material for production.
Shapers – 3people: Shape the recycled plastic into the required forms and components.
Transporters – 3people: Transport plastic waste, recycled materials, and finished products between collection points, the production facility, and customers.
Maintenance-2people: Supports the maintenance and proper functioning of equipment and production tools.

Our Innovation
Our innovation demonstrates how plastic waste can be converted into safe, practical, and educational products. The Abacus Is a Mathematic and Counting Tool Frame with rods or wires holding movable beads. Each column or rod shows a place value like ones, tens, and hundreds. Moving beads up and down helps calculate numbers fast. Its Used for basic mathematic as an alternative to modern digital calculators. It helps Learners learn numbers, counting, recognition, and basic mathematical concepts, while the Toys cars provide opportunities for creative and imaginative play.

By combining waste management, youth employment, education, and product innovation, Talk to Save Youth Recycling Initiative is helping to build a cleaner environment and create sustainable livelihoods for young people.
The initiative aims to expand production, reach more schools and children, create additional employment opportunities, and demonstrate that plastic waste can become a valuable resource rather than an environmental burden.
